A near-perfect book for OUTDOOR masonry projects

The "Book Description" review is correct when it says that
"The Complete Guide to Home Masonry is the most comprehensive and useful guide to masonry for today's do-it-yourself homeowner."
About the only thing missing from this one-sentence summary is that the book is nigh-exclusively devoted to OUTDOOR projects. (The short exceptions are damp-proofing basement walls, and repairing fireboxes.)
The book features clear step-by-step instructions and color photographs (one good photo for each and every step of every project -- HUNDREDS of photos total) for working with natural stone, stone veneer, brick, glass block, concrete block, poured concrete, patio tile, stucco, and hypertufa.
The projects cover all the simple outdoor jobs (such as walkways, walls, and patios), the common elaborations (such as adding lattice panels to a block wall, or laying tile over concrete), and quite a number of complex constructs -- like "Building a Stone Moon Window".
EVERY section of text has one or more illustrating photographs to show what they're writing about. EVERY photograph is in color, with good contrast, color rendition, and composition. EVERY project includes an "Everything You Need" box, listing all the tools and materials required. EVERY tool that's used in the projects has (1) a picture in the "Masonry Tools & Equipment" chapter early in the book; (2) a closeup of the tool in use; and (3) explanatory text discussing proper technique. EVERY material used has pictures of all states through its life -- from the bags clearly depicting brand names like "Quikrete" and "Lehigh", to the dry materials, the mixing process, the layout stage, and finishing with the final assembled project.
If this book had the same comprehensive coverage for INDOOR projects (tiling bathrooms and creating concrete countertops are high on my wish list), it would be worth SIX stars!

When it comes to negotiating salaries, though, many assume this tactic to be less applicable. Pinkley and Northcraft argue otherwise. Pinkley is a professor of organizational behavior at Southern Methodist University, and Northcraft is a professor of business administration at the University of Illinois. They note that 50 percent of prospective employees accept job offers without the benefit of negotiation. The authors explain which job issues can be negotiated and advise how to prepare for and conduct a negotiation and how to close the deal. A tactic they recommend is "expanding the pie" to claim more value for yourself, thereby "helping the other side want what [you have to offer]." Pinkley and Northcraft include specific tips and helpful examples throughout. They also advise ways to respond to various offers and warn of "speed bumps" and "deal killers." David Rouse

You may be able to negotiate on the starting date at best. On the other hand

Decent book but your mileage will greatly vary. Salary negotiations really depend on the field, the job, and the company.

If you are taking a low level (non-managerial) position at a huge corporation, they will not budge one cent on the salary. HR uses tight salary bands and will skip over you if you don't play along. You may be able to negotiate on the starting date at best. On the other hand, if you are a high roller in a specialized field and working with smaller/newer companies you could have leverage for negotiating.

Is the book worth reading? It really depends if you think if you have enough leverage. For example: If you're graduating from State U with a bachelor's in Business Administration, then don't bother. Be grateful you even got a decent gig in this hellish job market. If you are an experienced software developer in Silicon Valley with big projects under your belt, then it can't hurt to read it.

Great Book that gives you a point of view to negotiation that you never considered.

A great read. I had to got this as a recommended book on my syllabus. This is a great investment that I made. The book gives you insight into the intricacies of negotiating salaries. Most of us feel that we are skilled enough to negotiate our compensations and know how much we are worth. This book helped me realize my shortcomings and equipped me with skills required to make sure that I can advocate my worth. I would suggest this book to everyone, irrespective of their position and experience. It also helped me gain confidence in my negotiation skills otherwise. It can be a great self help book.

I read this book going into a company evaluation/negotiation. I am with a start-up company, so money can be tight. I received 15% salary increase, and made the salary-to-bonus structure much, much more favorable. (See the chapter: Expanding the Pie). I would recommend to anyone, especially young people!! Great read!

Wonderful tool for healthy life

I am a student of IIN and love the journal format so much that I continue to use it well past the first 3 months. I am nearly finished with the second and expect to buy a third one and maybe a fourth! A great way to keep track of one's progress in health matters and serves as food journal as well.

Okay that was the story's purpose. Now for the JUICY bits unveiled.
Raina's this hot & popular model and with her endometriosis progressing, she's a timebomb to have a kid before she stops producing eggs. BUMMER. So with all the emotional garbage she and her twin, Ridley, went through growing up, Raina is still "hardshell" against love and other emotions, save Ridley who she would protect with her life. Love, right? So of course the steamy hot one-nighter with Nick has her confused (from book 1) and she still thinks about him when she plans a platonic "businesslike" marriage to Billionaire with robot emotions, Stephen. He's a dud, yep. So the question is, will Raina get her head out of her butt, figure out that Nick loves her, she CAN be loved and give love, that he wants her and will marry her to just have her in his life?
I won't ruin that surprise for ya. YOU have to read it!

Okay now how did I feel?
I LOVE this continuation series into the sexy Alexander boys. Each book is about one of the four scrumptious hotties:
One More Day is Book 1 with Jackson (the youngest) and Ridley, twin to Raina
The Things I Do for You is Book 2 with Nicholas (Nick) the next to the youngest and Raina, twin to Ridley (from book 1)

The flow from books 1 to 2 was smooth. Even though the time between the two books took a moment to adjust. But once I kept reading and got more familiar with her characters, it was easy to remember One More Day's story line. I love how she [Minx] gets those emotions going in her readers. I felt heart palpitations when there was acknowledgement. I cheered when something good finally happened. Tears of joy, wishful thinking, hope, suspicion, intrigue, and disgust (with Stephen). Yeah, you feel it all with Minx. A roller coaster she takes you on with her books and I love it. But I know Minx gives us happy ending, but even knowing that there will be a happy ending, the ending isn't satisfying unless you take the journey. Take this journey with Minx. I promise she will not disappoint you! Yeah still ready to kick Stephen's butt. ;-)

Oh the Alexander Men!

I LOVED this book! Oh my god I was a mess reading the ending! Lol I loved One More Day but I think I'm leaning more towards Nick now that his true character was shown throughout the book. I was also skeptical of Raina but totally related to her and ALL of her fertility issues. I'm glad she finally woke up and smelled the cupcakes! I'm not going to lie I was looking at my kindle progress at 94% wondering "Okay it's getting down to the wire damn it!" I cannot wait to read Matt and Elliot's stories! You are an amazing author and you've kept me on a roller coaster of emotions in each book and I will be truly sad when this series is completed! Well played Minx! :)

Misleading cover.....

First off let me say that I'm not really basing my review score on the content of the book but on the cover. I enjoy romance reads and inter-racial ones in particular so it was to some dismay, after reading the sample of this, to find out that it is not an inter-racial romance only after purchasing it and reading a more detailed description of the male lead. So I googled the Alexanders series and all the brothers are African American. Don't get me wrong I read all types of romances but I had just finished a BWBM romance and wanted to change it up only to find that this book cover (and the other three) are blatantly misleading and as a consumer I like knowing at least the basics of what I'm paying for. So word of advice to the author in the future.....don't use misleading tactics sell your books. Even if I do end up enjoying this one, I'm wont be a return customer. Bad form Miss Malone.

Every time I come across a construction problem in my professional life I leaf through this book to see if the author came across it (he invariably has) and how he resolved it.
