Incredible

No one does anthologies as well as Lady Lit! Cheyenne Blue brings us the latest edition. There are fifteen stories in this tomb. Many of the authors I was familiar with but there were a few that are new to me. None of the stories are less than really good. These stories were beautifully written with good flow and interesting characters. The book ran me through a gauntlet of emotions. I laughed, cried and there were a whole lot of Awwww moments not to mention the sizzling sexy bits! I could not put this book down, it was so wonderful that I inhaled it as quickly as I could. I know I will be re-reading this book often! Below I will give you a glimpse at the stories.

There was a surprise for me in the book. One of the stories was written by a man. I tend to avoid lesfic and especially erotica written by a man. I figure they can't possibly know what women feel and have no business writing about it. Besides everyone knows what guys think of two girls getting it on, right. I was not going to read it but Ms. Harper Bliss of Ladylit encouraged reassured me that it fit in and belonged in the book. I thought about it and remembered This IS a Ladylit production and they have never put out less than fantastic...Besides, don't I trust Harper and Cheyenne? Well, I begrudgingly admit that “The Talkies” did indeed belong here. Mr Edwards write with poise and tact, this is very tastefully story and it was just as good as the women. SO on that note I am very sorry Mr Edwards and Ms Bliss. Thank you for giving me MY first with this story.

Roses and Thorns by Annabeth Leong – Ruth is a woman who needs to find her inner strength. This takes her to a boxing gym where she finds not just inner peace but outer as well. Her lover Arlene did not understand at first but when she does...WOW!

The Opposite of Darkness by Harper Bliss - If there is one thing I can always count on it is Ms Bliss' ability to touch my heart in some way. This story is no different. This tale is romantic, seductive, intense and so sweet. Its a delight to all my senses.

The Talkies by Jeremy Edwards – I loved the plot, two women in the 1920s – 30s (I'm guessing) one an actress about to do her first talking film and a reporter who admired her very much! There are great descriptions of things I never knew existed. This is very understated and coy and the sexy bits are better and more classy then I would have believed.

Before the Bus Comes by Tasmin Flowers – After talking with her friends about death and regrets, Red decides that what she would regret is making love to a woman. Enter Lara and a hot sexy scene.

Whole Again by Brenda Murphy – This is a wonderful sweet story about a cook who was injured in the war and a cute waitress who caught her eye. It is so beautiful!

Pulling by Sachhi Green – Holy moly is this a HOT one!!! Ree is at the fair showing off her team of horses. Carla is working at one of the game booth. When they meet....um, yeah...definitely on of my favourites in the book!

The First Peonies by Ivy Newman – Oh I do love this one. Holly is a loner who doesn't do relationships but when she sees Mira dancing in the bar, something inside her changes...this is beautiful and haunting. The details really make this story so precious.

Repossession by Emily Byrne – This is the story of a newly single woman whose house is being foreclosed on and the banker who came to get the keys from her but manages to set her free in the process.

That Summer by Vanessa De Sade – A tender coming of age story. Very poetic and sweetly descriptive. A great read.

Amelia by Cheyenne Blue – Ms Blue is a magician with a pen. This is an enchanting tale of Amelia Earhart after she crashes and disappears. It is quite delicious and sensual!

Ghost of She by Jillian Boyd – This is a great tale of a woman haunted by her first who abandoned her after many years together and the woman who wants to be her second chance. This is really, really good.

The Sum of Our Parts by Andi Marquette – Another great tale by Ms Marquette. This is a tenderly written short with a pair of real women, (one a breast cancer survivor). they are not just characters on a page. Truly touching.

Soar Spot by Allison Wonderland. This story was more sedate and serious than anything I've read by Ms Wonderland. It is the story of two women coming together after escaping from domestic violence. It is very well done.

Sea by Rosie Bower – This is a unique narration about two very different women by the sea. It is truly inspired.

Dissolving by Cela Winter – This is a great story about being able to let go and trust your partner. Its hot and sweet and real.

I Like the introduction. Well written.

Roses and Thorns by Annabeth Leong was kinda HOT.

The Opposite of Darkness by Harper Bliss was a good story, but I would have liked to read Erica's description of watching Lauren climaxing for the first time.

The Talkies by Jeremy Edwards - I didn't really enjoy this story. The wording was just a bit too formal for me.

Before the Bus Comes by Tamsin Flowers was VERY HOT!

Whole Again by Brenda Murphy was a beautiful story.

Pulling by Sacchi Green was a fun story.

The First Peonies by Ivy Newman was a good story.

Repossession by Emily L. Byrne was well written and a good story, but very sad.

That Summer by Vanessa De Sade - I loved this story. I also love the quote from The Well of Loneliness "give us also the right to our existence!"

Amelia by Cheyenne Blue - Mystery solved.. Well done.

Ghost of She by Jillian Boyd was a wonderful story.

The Sum Of Our Parts by Andi Marquette was an excellent story.

Soar Spot by Alison Wonderland was okay.

Sea by Rosie Bower was a good story.

Dissolving by Cela Winter was a fun way to end the adventure of this anthology.

Overall this was a wonderful anthology. I thoroughly enjoyed most of the stories and will be reading them again. I will be checking out the other works from several of the authors that I hadn't heard of before this anthology.

Another amazing Ladylit anthology!

LOVED THIS ANTHOLOGY!

Ladylit publishing is amazing and the authors that submit work for their anthologies are wonderful! I've learned about so many other authors I've enjoyed simply because of the anthologies Ladylit releases. I've given a very short review on each story below but just know that I enjoyed them ALL!

Roses and Thorns by Annabeth Leong: This was one of my favorites of the anthology. I really enjoy boxing so this story was multi-faceted for me.

The Opposite of Darkness by Harper Bliss: Oh my God! This story was so emotional right off the bat. With Harper's main character having lost her sight 7 years ago, she is just getting ready to have the bandages removed from a procedure that will give her sight again. And she'll see her partner for the first time EVER! Absolutely wonderful.

The Talkies by Jeremy Edwards: Another favorite for me! Again, it's partially because of the subject. I just LOVE the idea of a silent actress trying to break into the talkies for the first time.

Before the Bus Comes by Tamsin Flowers: This was such a hot story! Plus I loved the "twist" at the end. "Do you think we did it right?" LOL!

Whole Again by Brenda Murphy: I did enjoy this story but it was more for the social aspects of it. The judging of other people because they're "different" and the realization of who you are and owning up to it, even in the face of adversity.

Pulling by Sacchi Green: Yep, another favorite. I loved Green's description of the girl that is working the game booth and how all the guys are ogling over her, I couldn't help but smile and laugh a few times just because as the reader, we know she's interested in women. So seeing the boys get all huffy wondering why they aren't getting attention, is hilarious to me! I was highly entertained by this one!

The First Peonies by Ivy Newman: I so felt for the main character in this one and was very happy with the way it ended. I wasn't as into this one as some of the others, but still quite good.

Repossession by Emily L. Byrne: Honestly, not one of my favorites in this collection. It was very steamy and hot but I had a hard time with the seemingly manipulative nature of the banker.

That Summer by Vanessa de Sade: Basically a short story version of a coming of age tale. Very good and very sensuous.

Amelia by Cheyenne Blue: SHOUT OUT TO CHEYENNE! This story was my absolute favorite in the entire collection! I absolutely loved that she took famous woman and pilot, Amelia Earhart, and put her destiny into the hands of the unknown. I'm going to forever pretend that this is actually what happened to her because, honestly, just breath taking and so wonderful! I probably could've read a full length novel of this one.

Ghost of She by Jillian Boyd: This one was kind of sad for the most part and not until the end do we feel a glimmer of hope. Granted, all of us will understand the MC's plight as we've all gone through painful, haunting, break-ups.

The Sum of Our Parts by Andi Marquette: Another absolutely beautiful story! So full of emotions and sensuality. I think it's great to see MCs who aren't the "typical" version of the hot woman everyone is after. This is so real and so well done.

Soar Spot by Allison Wonderland: I love Allison Wonderland but this story was one of least favorites of the anthology. Not that it wasn't wonderful! (heh heh, I made a pun) but it just didn't quite hold up to the intensity of some of the other stories.

Sea by Rosie Bower: This was another good story but I couldn't help myself from wondering if the other woman was actually some siren trying to get the MC to plunge to her icy death in the sea! That wasn't the case, lol! And turned out to be quite the erotic scene, and an almost hazy fantasy dream world kind of story.

Dissolving by Cela Winter: I thoroughly enjoyed this story of powerful top learning how to let go and be a bottom for once. Very entertaining!

Passion during the Revolution

I first read this novel when I was 15 years old (over 20 years ago), but then I lent it to so many people that it got lost and have been searching for a copy ever since. This book had the misfortune of sporting a cover that grossly misrepresented the contents. By the cover illustration it appears to be a classic bodice-ripper romance with little substance. In actuality, it is a wonderful story that unfolds against the backdrop of late 18th century Paris. The author's well researched history is beautifully but tragically interwoven with the main character's life. So for me it was also a history lesson - as a young teenager, I learned about the atrocities of the French revolution and the first efforts towards smallpox vaccination. The main character, Manon, becomes involved with two men during her life: one is an aged aristocrat who genuinely loves her; and the other is a young handsome outlaw who robs her of her virginity in the first chapter. Even at the tender age of 15, I remember preferring her relationship with the aged aristocrat. Perhaps it was because it went against the grain of all the romance novels I was reading at the time -it seemed refreshingly real and genuine. If you are a fan of Rosalind Laker's "To Dance with Kings", you will definitely enjoy this one. If you come across a copy of it, forget about the cover and buy it!

Raison d'etre (reason for existence)

The French Passion is an excellent example of a Historical Romance from the 70's. Which means it is not a PC read. You get an equal amount of history wrapped around a compelling story filled with complete degradation of the h. But most importantly what you get is wonderful prose sprinkled throughout a fast paced read. The words spoken by the characters made them interesting and multi-dimensional.

The Comte de Crequi - The seasoned nobleman, confidant and advisor to King Louis XV and XVI. He was a nonpareil on the battlefield and a shrewd tactician when it came to courtly matters.

"Whenever I'm hurt, a demon possesses me. Revenge is the only way to exorcise my demon."

Manon D`Epinay - a descendant from a once wealthy and powerful aristocratic family now fallen on hard times. She will do anything to protect the people she loves.

"My aversion to selling myself was gone. I would have to rely on my body and my wits to enable myself and those dependent on me to survive."

Andre - A poet, revolutionary and highwayman.

"Is there any greater depravity than to fatten game while humans starve."

The French Passion is Manon raison d'etre, she lives to protect her sickly brother and will do anything to help those in need to the point she constantly puts herself in dangerous situations during a time when a person could be sent to the Bastille at the whim of a powerful nobleman. Her beauty and youth will bring her much hardship and her honesty will be her destruction. Her guardian ,the Come de Crequi plans to marry the 16 yr old Manon, only to have his plans dashed when she is compromised by Andre a highwayman on the road to her wedding. Thus starts the tragic story of a love triangle (some might say it was definitely a triangle, but not love, more like lust) set amongst the dawn of the French Revolution.

Be warned there are several rapes in this story, and the h is able to forgive and actual come to love 2 of her rapist. I know, I know..... it was written in the 70's. On the back cover of the book in the description it actually states the h was passionately raped. And yes there are a lot of TSTL moments, but and this is a big but, the Comte de Crequi was the star of this book. He was the typical 70's anti-hero, he was ugly and 34 yrs older than the h. He was a man you did not want to cross and he lived up to his reputation. I get so tired of the so called evil characters in books today not living up to their reputations. Or as a reader not being able to experience the villain in true acts of villainy. The author successfully depicted 1785 Paris and the mob scenes were well done. I first read this book in the 70's and I am happy to report it has stood the test of time. Although I don't like first person narrative books I will make an exception with this one because the story flows and you get caught up in the actions of the characters. I grew up reading this style of writing and always wanted to know what the other characters were thinking, what were their motivations.

If you like HR from the 70's, that span several years and actual makes the history of the story come alive you will love this book.

Not Your Average Bodice-Ripper

This book had a surprising depth to it. There was no real villain--even the aged aristocrat had redeeming qualities, and the death of the child, Coco, was truly heartbreaking. I did want to smack Old Lucien, but at least much of his behavior was understandable. I would definitely recommend this book.

Just loved the book. Bought it on a whim, I've read many of this author's works and I personally am highly skeptical of "psychic" anything.
Man, was I thoroughly surprised at all the military detail, character depth and more so, the way in which it portrays a potential and plausible virtual/psychic realm and interaction within and without it.
Simply worth the money paid.

Special Forces Action with a Sci-Fi twist

I just counted and it turns our I currently have 14 Bob Mayer novels on my Kindle. Psychic Warrior is the 5th Mayer novel I have read. I have enjoyed them all, and I am looking forward to reading another Mayer thriller very soon.

Psychic Warrior is very off-beat and the psychic twist adds a big element to the fighting and suspense in this thriller. Love the villian (Chyort (the devil)) and all the sub-plots to this story. It appears Bob Mayer cannot write a bad book, the 5 I have read have all been 4-5 stars easy. The author knows his stuff when it comes to special forces. I hope there is enough fan interest to get Bob to write a 2nd Psychic Warrior novel.

great Novel with a great set of twists and turns

Excellent story telling, character building, story-line and set up for future stories. Would have been 5 stars but for me the ending was just a bit melodramatic and left me wanting more. I will definitely read more from Bob Mayer.

I did alot of searching on the internet for a vocal selections book from the broadway musical version of The Wiz. This book you are looking at now is the vocal selections from the 1978 movie 'The Wiz,' starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. I finally found a vocal selections book from the broadway show, and it is out of print, originally published by Fox Fanfare Music. Just letting you know, because the movie is quite different from the broadway show.

*The Wiz*- Almost in it's Entirety!

This book has almost every song from the Wiz, an fantastic musical. The songs in the book are: Ease On Down The Road, Home, He's The Wizard, Be A Lion, The Feeling We Once Had, What Would I Do If I Could Feel, Slide Some Oil To Me, You Can't Win, Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News, Soon As I Get Home, I'm A Mean Ole Lion, Believe In Yourself, Can I Go On?, A Brand New Day,Is This What Feeling Gets? Dorothy's Theme, and Emerald City Sequence. This book didn't get the full five stars just because the Wiz isn't the BEST musical ever. (I'm a harsh critic.) Don't let that stop you from buying a great book of selections from a classic musical!

Great coverage of tunes!

This book works well for "Wiz" selections although the range is a bit high on several of the tunes. Be aware that most karaoke versions of these songs are pitched a fifth lower than written.

Sometimes good, sometimes disappointing

Not bad, but a bit disappointing. At its core, it's an overview of key moments in the history of film, with major milestones covered in 4- to 10-page chapters. It reads briskly and it structured well.

Because of all that, it SHOULD be a good read. But it's ... well, just okay. The author relies too much on the words of others, brings none of his own flair to the writing. Plenty of quotes and opinions from others in the field, little in the way of new insights or viewpoints. I have read webpages with better assessments of various eras in film.

This makes this a non-essential for folks who already known their film, but that doesn't mean this doesn't have value for a film student or someone new to film. The book does offer a nice look at various periods in film history, and the chapters on key film movements were well done, inspiring me to watch some stuff I may not have otherwise seen.

Can't give it the highest recommendation possible, but you won't hate yourself for owning this.

rausch's, "turning points in film history" is a rare example of a highly entertaining textbook. i wish we had books like this is film school. you know a book has some serious style when joe bob briggs does an intro. it just doesn't get any more cool than that.

film schools across the country and aspiring filmmakers take note. this one's a must read!

This is a book that all you need...

JMeter is fairly an easy tool to use! However when you start to use JMeter and configure it to the way you would like to run a performance test, you often get stuck and find yourself looking for information on JMeter online documentation. Don't get me wrong, JMeter has very good documentation but doesn’t have good practical examples or integration documentation with other tools like JMeter plugins, Blazemeter and continues integration tools.

Now getting to this book, it has everything and more. In fact if you don’t know anything about JMeter you can still buy this book and as the only book it has a dedicated chapters to introduce you to JMeter and take you to the next level and help setup a performance test framework for your project.

This book has some recipes and information which cannot be found anywhere else at least in the details provide by the author in this book. Few of the examples for this are with regards to Ruby DSL to write JMeter test scripts and also integration with few of the cloud service like Blazemeter and Flood.io. After reading this book I plan to make changes to my current JMeter framework.

Few of the recipes require you to use a specific tool, which might not be relevant to your setup or what you require in your setup. Hence you might have to at time to modify the recipe to match your setup.
I recommend this book to anyone, who is getting started on performance testing using JMeter and would like to get some ideas on how to setup JMeter. However please note that this is a book on JMeter not on the concepts of performance testing.

The book would be helpful for every person involved in performance testing with JMeter

New Bayo Erinle's book, JMeter Cookbook, was published by Packt Publishing with the subtitle: 70 insightful and practical recipes to help you successfully use Apache JMeter.

Book has 8 chapters and appendix, total 211 pages, as following:
Chapter 1: JMeter Fundamentals
Chapter 2: Handling Responses
Chapter 3: Building Robust Test Plans with Controllers
Chapter 4: Testing Services
Chapter 5: Diving into Distributed Testing
Chapter 6: Extending JMeter
Chapter 7: Building, Debugging, and Analyzing the Results of Test Plans
Chapter 8: Beyond the Basics
Appendix: Installing the Supporting Software Needed for This Book

Every chapter includes a number of different recipes. For example, chapter 8, Beyond the Basics, includes Continuous Integration with JMeter, testing with different bandwidths, using the HTTP Cache Manager component, using script languages within test plans, writing Test scripts through Ruby DSL, understanding JMeter properties, monitoring servers while executing tests (using VisualVM, YourKit Profiler, and New Relic), and performance tips to scale JMeter.

The main strength of the book is that the author provides very specific recipes, listing applications, tools, and steps in detail. If you follow it, you will learn a lot about overall infrastructure used in web software development and operations (for example, Vagrant, VirtualBox, Maven, Git, AWS). Not only base JMeter is discussed, but also other elements of JMeter ecosphere get mentioned - plugins and related services (such as Blazemeter and flood.io).

It is also probably the main weakness of the book. It is somewhat light on the conceptual side, some recipes includes a lot of specific infrastructural details that are not necessarily a part of the solution. Readers may have a similar task, but very different infrastructure - so will need to map the recipe to their own environment, figuring out themselves what are important parts of the recipe and what are technical details provided just to make the example working. Although it is probably what we should expect from the book named `JMeter Cookbook'.
 
I believe that the book would be helpful for every person involved in performance testing with JMeter. Probably it shouldn't be the first book to start and probably it shouldn't be the only book - it is good to complement it with books discussing performance testing concepts. But it is definitely an important addition to any performance-testing-related library as actually it is the first good book of this genre.

As strange as it sounds, Bayo Erinle's books (first Performance Testing With JMeter 2.9 and now JMeter Cookbook) are the first decent books about a specific decent load testing tool. For [at least] 20+ years of load testing history there was no good books published about a specific mature load testing tool. None. Well, at least none worth mentioning. There were several good generic books - but there are things in performance testing that you can't explain generically, you need specific examples. And now we have already two good JMeter books by Bayo Erinle.

Great for all JMeter users - from total beginners to very advanced users. It covers a wide spectrum of topics, with clear step-by-step instructions for each one. This is a useful book to have at hand while you're load testing, you can just dip in and out of it to quickly and easily find the solutions you need. It's also a fantastic way to generally extend your capabilities and knowledge. Well worth buying.
